I recently came across a lecture (which I’ve posted here for you) that I think sums up the creative process (or one very specific, honest, intelligent process certainly) in a nearly perfect 20 minute video. Elizabeth Gilbert, author of Eat, Pray, Love talks openly, humorously, and vulnerably about what it takes to be inspired, to be an artist, and to survive the creative process. This chance encounter with this video inspired in a way this weeks Princess’ Pick.

I’ve always thought that HOW and WHY we create art and are so utterly compelled to do so was sometimes as fascinating as the actual art that is created. Clearly I’m not the only one, as the Djerassi Artist in Residence Program has collaborated with a number of artists to provide a monthly lecture entitled: Where Art Originates: Artists & the Creative Process. From poetry to film, visual art and an assortment of different perspectives these sessions held at the Palo Alto Art Center (the first of which starts tonight) give us insight into the orgins or inspiration and the process of many talented folks. Whether you take in one or many of these lecture I think they in themselves might even serve as inspiration for your own conversations, examinations, and maybe even art!
